Smart Solutions to Strengthen Tennessee is my plan to make our city and state stronger. During the next four years, this plan will form the backbone of my legislative agenda as I work to expand opportunity and grow prosperity for Tennessee families. Now is the time for a focus on more than just Republican solutions or Democratic solutions — it’s a time for Smart Solutions.

1). Cutting Taxes for Stronger Families

A Phased in Sales Tax Reduction on Items of Necessity

  • Reduce Sales Tax on necessary hygiene items from 7 percent to 4.5 percent, a cut of 2.5 percent. Eligible items to include:
    • Diapers
    • Toilet Paper
    • Feminine Hygiene Products
  • Reduce Sales Tax on food from 5 percent to 4.5 percent. A cut of .5 percent.

2). Spending Review for Stronger Government Accountability

Establish a permanent, independent, and bipartisan commission mandated to perform an annual budget review finding areas for meaningful spending reductions as well as cutting waste, fraud and abuse. Leading to recommendations on how we can reduce and reform government spending.

3). Tuition Stability for Stronger Students

Lock-in tuition rates for all incoming freshman at state universities. This will provide students with a fixed tuition rate that will be frozen for 120 hours at four-year-universities.

4). Smart Medical Cannabis Laws for Stronger Tennessee Patients

Reform our medical cannabis laws so that our state’s neediest patients have access to helpful medications, removing outdated and ineffective medical regulations.
